How To: Make Dinner for Two

Making dinner for your guy may sound like an intimidating task, but don’t let it be. You don’t have to be a master chef or be willing to spend all of your cash on your romantic dinner. You can show him you care through a creative, relaxed night. It’s simple, and he can even help — after all, the dinner is for two!

1. Set the scene
Keep comfort in mind when choosing the perfect setting for you and your guy. If you feel awkward having dinner in your house together, or if your family is occupying the dining room, pick a different place. You could set up a blanket in the basement or your backyard. Or go public and set up a cozy blanket in the park, or use a picnic table for your romantic bash.

2. Personalize the mood
Dinner doesn’t have to be just about the food. Spice up the atmosphere with some tunes to rock out to. Compile a bunch of songs you and your guy love, and rock out to the mix (or play it softly in the background, depending on where you are). If you dine outdoors, you can bring portable speakers to enjoy some melody with your food. If you’re indoors, you can use scented candles or incense for a special ambience.

3. Dinner theme
Make your menu decision a painless one: Pick a theme. Whether it’s Mexican, Italian, or a mixture of you and your guy’s favorite cuisine, pick something that won’t be too complicated to prepare and that you can both enjoy. You don’t have to do a traditional dinner, either. A bunch of appetizers and finger foods might work out better. You could even do a healthy twist on fast foods. Don’t worry if you’re not the greatest cook — check out these simple recipes.

Be sure to ask your guy if he wants to cook with you — it can be a learning experience for you both. Plus, sometimes preparing the food is just as fun as eating it!
